Weekly Wine Fact:
Tannin: There are four kinds of tannins that can be found in wine: (a) stems, (b) inside surface of the skins, (c) seeds (or pips) and (d) oak (or other wood). Tannins are what add bitterness and astringency to wine. Tannins are also part of the structure of a wine and have a major impact on ageability. Usually when we talk about tannins they are subdivided into grape or oak tannins. The two most common grape tannins are stem and skin (the in-side surface). Many winemakers try to avoid using pips because they can be too bitter. Oak tannins add another flavor profile that is different from grape tannins. Tannins add to the flavor profile, mouth feel and the ability to age. Too much tannin can make a wine undrinkable, particularly a young red wine.

90 Points, Wine Spectator - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have released their first wine, a 2012 rose from their Provence estate, Chateau Miraval. In a blind tasting of a flight of Provençal roses at Wine Spectator's New York office, the wine was refined and elegant, with pure flavors of dried red berry and tangerine, and a focused finish with flint and spice notes. It scored 90 points, or outstanding, on Wine Spectator's 100-point scale.

Schweinsbrau Beer
Schweinsbrau beer comes from the organic farm of Herrmannsdorf, which is located on the outskirts of Munich in the beautiful Bavarian countryside. Herrmannsdorf is the vision of Karl Ludwig Schweisfurth, who is one of the pioneers of organic, sustainable agriculture.
Dunkel - $4/btl
The dunkel is a traditional dark lager typical to Bavaria. This beer is dark brown in color with reddish highlights. Hose is lightly earthy. Taste is immediately honeyed and malty, perfumy with a hit of almond and cherry. Malt dominates as you would expect thought some bitter hops do peep through.
Birrificio Montelupo - Tuscany, Italy
This brewery is located in the village of Montelupo in the Tuscan countryside.The brewery is part of a growing movement of craft brewers in Italy, which is the epicenter in Europe for in new microbreweries. Until recently, Italy was not known as a beer culture. Hence, the Italian brewers are young, creative, and experimental in their approach to brewing. They are not constrained by local methods or traditions. Birrificio Montelupo is part of this new generation of craft brewers. Montelupo produces Belgium and English style ales. The Montelupo beers have whimsical, fun labels that feature a wolf, which is the symbol for the village of Montelupo. The name of the village means wolf mountain in Italian.
